Cop fatally shot after suspect attacks him with rock, steals gun: officials
Ns News Online Desk: A suspect fleeing a car crash near Boston allegedly stole a cop’s gun and then shot dead the officer and an innocent bystander Sunday.
Weymouth police officer Michael Chensa, 42, was chasing Emmanuel Lopes after Lopes was involved in a car wreck around 7:30 a.m. — when Lopes allegedly bashed Chensa with a stone, sending the officer tumbling to the ground.
Authorities say Lopes then took Chensa’s service weapon and blasted him several times in the head and chest before resuming his flight.
As other officers gave chase, Lopes allegedly squeezed off three more rounds, missing his pursuers but fatally striking an unidentified elderly woman as she sat inside her house.
Chensa was taken to South Shore Hospital but the Army veteran, husband and father succumbed to his wounds there, according to masslive.com.
Lopes, who was later arrested, suffered a leg wound.
