Huge iceberg could destroy tiny island village in Greenland
Ns News Online Desk; A gigantic iceberg is menacing a tiny island village in Greenland.
Authorities partially evacuated Innaarsuit amid fears the berg will start breaking up – creating tsunami-like waves off the northwestern coast of Greenland.
Just 169 people inhabit the village. The 330-foot-tall iceberg drifted near the island on Thursday. It hasn’t moved since, but authorities fear chunks will break off and create huge waves.
“We are used to big icebergs, but we haven’t seen such a big one before,” Susanna Eliassen, a member of the Innaarsuit village council, told state broadcaster KNR.
Last summer, four people died and 11 were injured after waves slammed a different settlement in northwestern Greenland.
