Phone conversation among US Secretary of state and Bangladesh Foreign Minister
Ns News Online Desk: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has called on Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, less than seven days after US Secretary of State Blinken’s phone call against Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and seven former and current military officers.
The US Secretary of State made the call on Wednesday evening, State Department officials said . During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers discussed the development of Bangladesh-US relations. When Anthony Blinken called Abdul Momen on his mobile phone, he was at Bangabhaban where President of India Ramnath Kobindera present.
The Foreign Minister picked up the phone while he was at Bangabhaban to attend a courtesy call and dinner courtesy of Abdul Hamid. The two foreign ministers agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties in the future by maintaining good relations between the two countries for five decades, a senior State Department official said.
On December 10, International Human Rights Day, the United States imposed banned on RAB and seven former and current members of the force. They were banned for serious human rights abuses. Among the banned officers is former RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed, who is now the Inspector General of Police in Bangladesh.
