Police confirm ‘shooting incident’ at Maryland newspaper office
Ns News Online Desk: US police are investigating a shooting at the offices of a local newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland.
Police told US media there had been an active shooter at the scene, and that a suspect was now in custody.
Authorities did not provide details about any injuries due to the shooting, but some reports say several people were shot. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was responding. The shooting occurred at the Capital Gazette newspaper building on Thursday afternoon.
Maryland governor Larry Hogan said on Twitter he was “absolutely devastated” and was in contact with authorities.President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting, the deputy press secretary told reporters.
In intern, Anthony Messenger tweeted, “Active shooter at 888 Bestgate please help us.” He also wrote that an editor was shot. Authorities confirmed on Twitter early Thursday afternoon that they were dealing an active shooter.
The Capital Gazette is owned by The Baltimore Sun and police were also present in that paper’s newsroom.
