The US embargo on RAB officials is “unacceptable”,Bangladesh IM Hasan Mahmud

Ns News Online Desk:Ns News Online Desk: Bangladesh Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Joint General Secretary of the Awami League,Hasan Mahmud, has said that although the US embargo on RAB officials is “unacceptable”, it will not affect the “friendship” between the two countries.

He was the chief guest at the unveiling ceremony of the special magazine ‘Mother and Child’ in the conference room of the Information Department at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon. He said this in response to a question from the journalists at the end of the program.

Hassan Mahmood said, “We think this incident is an isolated incident. This will have no effect on our relationship with the United States. We think that some NGOs and individuals are constantly conspiring against the country in different places and they are constantly providing untrue information not only in the United States but also in other countries.

“We have a very good relationship with the United States,” he said. As a development partner, the United States has been supporting our development in many ways. Our security forces and law enforcement agencies have benefited from the technical cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism and militancy. Because a global network is needed to suppress the global network of terrorists and militants.

But the way the US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on RAB officials is unwelcome, sad, unacceptable, ineffective. ” Earl Miller, the US ambassador to Iraq, was summoned after the United States imposed sanctions on seven current and former top RAB officials. In this regard, Hassan Mahmoud said, “The government has summoned the US ambassador and strongly protested. I do not know whether the summoning of the US Ambassador has taken place in Bangladesh before or long ago. It is also a matter of diplomatic etiquette whether the sudden imposition of such sanctions without any prior communication was done in accordance with diplomatic etiquette.

We hope that our ally, the United States, will be able to understand our country’s sentiments in this regard. ” Regarding the US sanctions, Hassan Mahmoud said, “The United States has at times imposed such sanctions on officials in various countries. But no Israeli official has been found to have imposed sanctions on Israel for gross violations of human rights. In many developed countries, such human rights violations have occurred, but we have not seen any sanctions imposed on those with whom the United States has business and economic interests. ”

Recalling the assassination of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting said, “Extreme human rights violations are taking place inside the United States. The manner in which George Floyd was publicly strangled to death in broad daylight has never happened in Bangladesh. U.S. security forces, law enforcement agencies continue to commit grave human rights abuses year after year.

The deaths in police custody, the torture of detainees at Guantanamo Bay have drawn worldwide criticism, and protests in the United States, and are still taking place.
