Trump celebrates ‘end’ of Korean War

Ns News Online DeskNs News Online Desk: President Trump cheered the “end” of the Korean War on Friday following a historic meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

“KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!” he wrote.

The two countries technically remain at war since a peace treaty was never signed after the 1950-53 Korean War. However, despite Trump’s tweet, Kim and Moon have not yet declared an official end to the conflict. Instead, they agreed at the summit to work to remove all nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula and pursue talks with the US in hopes of finally declaring the war as over.

Still, Trump tweeted his optimism over the meeting, which marked the first time a North Korean leader had crossed over the border into the South. “After a furious year of missile launches and Nuclear testing, a historic meeting between North and South Korea is now taking place,” Trump wrote. “Good things are happening, but only time will tell!”

Trump also credited his “good friend” China President Xi Jinping with helping bring the two countries together. “Please do not forget the great help that my good friend, President Xi of China, has given to the United States, particularly at the Border of North Korea. Without him it would have been a much longer, tougher, process!” he said.

Trump is expected to meet with Kim in May or June. The meeting would be the first between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader.
