Trump: Kim Jong Un’s threat to cancel summit was news to us

Ns News Online DeskNs News Online Desk: President Trump said Wednesday that the White House was in the dark about North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un’s threat to back out of the planned summit next month.

“We haven’t been notified at all,” Trump said in response to a question during a photo op with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who was making his first visit to the White House.

“We haven’t seen anything. We haven’t heard anything. We’ll have to see what happens,” he said.

North Korea earlier Wednesday threatened to scrap the potentially historic summit in Singapore on June 12 between Trump and Kim, saying it had no interest in a “one-sided” affair meant to pressure the North to abandon its nuclear weapons. The president had insisted that the North had to eliminate its nuclear weapons program as part of any deal — and reiterated that stance Wednesday.
