US-Fire rips through NYC apartment building, injuring 16 people
Ns News Online Desk: Firefighters responded to 530 45th Street in Sunset Park around 11:20 p.m. to find a “heavy fire condition” on the second floor of the three-story brownstone, according to the FDNY.
Four people were in critical condition, officials said. The other 12 suffered non life-threatening injuries.“One of our officers found a child on the second floor in the fire apartment in cardiac arrest,” Assistant Chief of Fire Operations Michael Gala said. “They quickly removed that child to the street.”
“At the same time, members found several victims on the top floor and removed them expeditiously from the fire building,” Gala added.
The blaze was under control in 45 minutes, with 60 firefighters from 12 units responding to the scene, he said.Neighbors congregated on the smoky street as a slew of first responders used ladders to rescue patients that were rushed to area hospitals.
No firefighters were harmed, according to the department. The cause of the one-alarm fire is being investigated.
