Ns News Online Desk: The White House and Kremlin are in early talks for a face-to-face meeting between President Trump and Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, according to a report published on Friday night.
The Wall Street Journal cited multiple unnamed sources who claimed such a summit is in the works, which could bring two of the world’s most powerful men onto a single stage.
Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, now the US ambassador to Russia, has been on the front end of talks to bring the world leaders together, an official said. “This has been an ongoing project of Ambassador Huntsman, stretching back months, of getting a formal meeting between Putin and Trump,” the official said.
The on-going civil war in Syria, relations with Ukraine and nuclear arms control would be among topics in a potential Trump-Putin meeting. Trump has long been an admirer of Putin, offering a congratulatory phone call to the Russian strongman last month, against the wishes of his own security advisers.
