Yunus urges EU envoys to relocate visa centers from Delhi to Dhaka
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today requested European countries to relocate their visa centers from Delhi to Dhaka, or to another neighboring country.
Yunus made the appeal during a meeting with diplomats from European Union countries in Dhaka. The meeting, held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon in the noon, was attended by a 19-member delegation led by Michael Miller, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Bangladesh.
The long meeting covered various issues, including labor rights, trade benefits, climate change, human rights, the International Crimes Tribunal Act, Rohingya repatriation, and mutual commitments toward building a sustainable future.
Yunus, in his remarks, briefly outlined the oppression, exploitation, forced disappearances, and human rights violations that have occurred over the past 15 years. He also urged for an economic white paper report, stressing on corruption, money laundering, and disruption of banking system during this period, accusing the former prime minister of using laundered money to destabilize the country after she was ousted.
He also spoke about fostering national unity, mentioning his interactions with representatives of all political parties and religious communities to ensure social harmony.
The visiting envoys expressed their full support for the current reform initiatives, offering suggestions and solutions to existing challenges. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to addressing the aforementioned issues and enhancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the EU.
