Ns News Online Desk: A Long Island Rail Road train carrying about 500 passengers derailed in Queens on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The 12:19 p.m. train from Penn Station to Port Washington derailed just as it came above ground on the Queens side of the East River tunnels, according to MTA spokeswoman Sarah Armaghan.
The first axle and front two wheels of the train came off the tracks. The train did not tip and no injuries were immediately reported, said Armaghan. The MTA put all passengers on another train to Port Washington at about 1:30 p.m.
This is the second train that has derailed in that area in the past two weeks. An incident on July 21 caused LIRR service cancellations and delays for two days as workers attempted to right the train.
