Rumin Farhana questions the Education Minister on why the exams couldn’t be postponed by a day or two
Renaund Independent MP Rumin Farhana has drawn the attention of the Education Minister in the National Parliament to find out why the HSC, a very important exam and one of the main subjects of science, Physics, was not postponed for a couple of days despite the students’ agitation before the exam.
In response, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said that the decision to conduct the exam on time was made after analyzing the overall situation across the country and the opinions of the local administration. At the same time, the candidates will be given full marks for mistakes in the physics exam question paper.
The minister made this statement in response to a supplementary question from Brahmanbaria-2 MP Rumin Farhana during the question-and-answer session on the 24th day of the second and first budget sessions of the 13th National Parliament on Tuesday (July 14).
Raising a supplementary question through the Speaker in Parliament, MP Rumin Farhana said that the students had requested to postpone the exam a little, but that decision was not taken. That is why there was a movement in Dhaka. A very important exam like HSC, on which the future of a boy or girl depends in the future. And in the case of one of the most important science exams like physics, what was the problem in considering this demand of the students, why the exam could not be postponed for at least a day or two, she wants to know from the minister.
The minister further said that on the morning of the exam day, when the ground of Comilla Government Women’s College was flooded, the candidates were immediately taken to the five-story building of the center by boat with the help of the mayor, fire service, police and DC. When the students’ clothes got wet due to a temporary disaster, the exam was started one hour late by providing alternative clothes and the time limit for their exam was also extended. The minister mentioned that the local administration was given full power to stop or delay the exam if necessary in disaster situations.
Regarding the errors in the physics exam question paper, the education minister said, the process of question moderation should have started two years ago. The current government has been in office for only four months, so these questions were prepared by moderators from the previous government. However, since errors were identified in questions 6 and 7 of the physics subject, it has been immediately announced that full credit will be given to the examinees for those two questions.
In response to another supplementary question from reserved women’s seat MP Marzia Begum, the Education Minister said that the demand to convert Lakshmipur Science and Technology University into a general or specialized agricultural university is under the government’s consideration. Currently, the work of vetting the law of this university is underway. A specialized ‘School of Agriculture’ or Faculty of Agriculture will be established under this university on the model of full-fledged universities in Europe and America, which will reflect the demands of life and economic reality of the people of this region.
